Education:

1992 M.S., Fishery Biology, Colorado State University
1987 B.S., Fishery Biology, Colorado State University

Expertise/Specialty:

Ken Tiffan's research area is the ecology and life history of fall Chinook salmon in the Columbia River basin, with an emphasis on endangered stocks in the Snake River. Current activities include a cooperative study with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on factors affecting different life history pathways selected by juvenile Snake River fall Chinook salmon. Estimating reach survival, fate, and population abundance are areas of emphasis. A different study examines causes for recent trends toward earlier outmigration timing of naturally-produced juveniles in the Snake River and includes density-dependent factors and bioenergetics modeling. Past work has included analyses of chum salmon spawning behavior and habitat requirements in the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam.
