B.S. 1988. Illinois State University. Biology.

M.S. 1993. Zoology, University of Hawaii. A nutritional index for the Hawaiian spiny lobster.

Liedtke has been involved with fisheries research on the Columbia River since 1993. Her current area of research is the behavior of juvenile salmon in the lower Columbia River, with an emphasis on dam tailrace environments with the use of radio telemetry. Liedtke has worked on monitoring the behavior of resident fish, development and evaluation of radio transmitter implantation techniques, development and application of drogues (drifter buoys) to describe complex hydraulic environments, and assessment of juvenile salmon movement rates near hydroelectric dams. Current activities include monitoring behavior of juvenile salmon and their predators near dams and evaluation of prototype structures and conditions at dams aimed at improving fish friendly passage.
