B.S., Fisheries Resources (management option), University of Idaho. Position with USGS: Fishery Biologist, Western Fisheries Research Center, Columbia River Research Laboratory, Cook, WA.
While attending school at the University of Idaho, Kyle spent three summers working with the Forest Service on two National Forests in Washington and Montana. The first two summers he performed reach level stream surveys and fish presence-absence surveys. His final summer was spent completing hydrological surveys on 1st-3rd order streams. After graduation, Kyle worked for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife collecting data on northern pikeminnow and other salmonid predators on the Columbia River. Kyle then moved on to United States Fish and Wildlife Service working with three screw traps on tributaries of the Sacramento River.
Kyle is currently working as a crew leader with steelhead in the Wind River (WA) and rainbow trout in the White Salmon River (WA). In the Wind River watershed, he is investigating survival and habitat relationships of juvenile summer steelhead through their parr stage of life and tracking changes in abundance and life history expression as major restoration activities are implemented. In the White Salmon River watershed, he is conducting a watershed-level study on Rattlesnake Creek, a major tributary to the White Salmon River, to document fish assemblage, abundance, and habitat relationships as a forerunner of the planned reintroduction of salmon and steelhead above Condit Dam.
