B.S. Fisheries Science, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Position with USGS: Fishery Biologist, Western Fisheries Research Center, Columbia River Research Laboratory, Cook, WA.
Ian currently works with steelhead in the Wind River (WA), steelhead in Toppenish Creek (WA), and rainbow trout and cutthroat trout in the White Salmon River and Rattlesnake Creek (WA). In the Wind River, he is participating in a study of juvenile steelhead to determine survival, densities, limiting factors, life histories, and relationships with introduced chinook salmon and brook trout. In Toppenish Creek, he is participating in an investigation of potential steelhead smolt migration through off-channel wetland areas on Toppenish National Wildlife Refuge. In the White Salmon River and Rattlesnake Creek, he is assisting with documentation of current habitat condition, fish populations, and life histories of resident rainbow and cutthroat trout prior to restoration efforts and the removal or laddering of Condit Dam. He has also been working with a prototype instream PIT-tag detection system to monitor resident trout movement between the mainstem White Salmon River and Rattlesnake Creek.
