Liedtke has been involved with fisheries research on the Columbia River since 1996. His current area of work is aiding in the design, set up, and maintenance of large arrays of fixed receiving radio telemetry equipment. This has been his primary focus since starting work in the Columbia Basin. Liedtke has been involved in all aspects of the use of radio telemetry equipment. Such work has included: mobile tracking from boats, airplanes, trucks, rafts, and on foot, designing structures for mounting aerial and underwater antennas, assisting with the implantation of radio transmitters in fish, and data analysis.
